Practice Owner at Matthew Stoel Counseling, PLLC

Matthew Stoel, LMSW

Hi, I’m Matt, a licensed therapist and school social worker. With over 10 years of experience, I specialize in supporting children, teens, young adults, and families. I understand how challenging it can be to take the first step toward therapy, having been a client myself. My goal is to create an open, supportive space where we work together to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Let’s start a conversation and work toward achieving your goals.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach is grounded in evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, stress, life changes, or feeling stuck, I provide a collaborative space where we can work together to make meaningful progress.

My Professional Background

As a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Michigan, I earned my Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan in 2015, specializing in interpersonal practice, mental health, and school social work. My experience spans school settings, home-based therapy, and medical social work, giving me a well-rounded approach to support you.

How We’ll Work Together

I use a warm, accepting, and goal-focused approach to therapy — helping you develop practical tools while also addressing the deeper patterns that may be holding you back. You don’t have to face this alone. Whether you’re seeking clarity, relief, or a deeper connection with yourself, I’m here to guide and support you.

Commitment to Inclusivity

As a therapist, I deeply value the diversity of experiences and identities. Below, you'll find more about my commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone.

I am dedicated to creating a welcoming, affirming, and inclusive space for all individuals. I honor and respect the unique identities and experiences of every person, including those related to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, and cultural background. My practice is grounded in empathy, equity, and a deep commitment to anti-oppressive care. Whether you're seeking support for personal growth, healing, or navigating life’s challenges, you are welcome here—just as you are.
